AFAB/DFAB: Assigned/designated female at birth

Agender: Someone who does not identify with any gender

AMAB/DMAB: Assigned/designated male at birth

Binary Gender: The two most socially common genders, man and woman

Chosen Name: A name that a trans person chooses as their new name, is their real name

Cisgender/Cis: Someone whose gender matches the sex they were assigned at birth

Coming Out: When someone tells others of their gender identity that does not match their assigned sex at birth

Deadname: A name assigned to a trans person at the time of their birth, but not used anymore

Demiboy: Someone who identifies partially as masculine, but not wholly, they may or may not identify with another gender as well

Demigirl: Someone who identifies partially as feminine, but not wholly, they may or may not identify with another gender as well

Dysphoria: A feeling of discomfort or anxiety of being in the wrong body or with the wrong gender, can be gender related or physical related, felt by many but not all trans people

Estrogen: Female hormone therapy

Gender Expression: The way someone outwardly expresses their gender, can be through clothing, names, pronouns, or other ways

Genderfluid: Someone whose gender fluctuates, can shift from day to day or even minute to minute

Gender Identity: Someone's internal identity, may or may not match the sex assigned at birth

Gender Queer: Umbrella term, much like nonbinary, refers to people that do not identify with their assigned sex

Intersex: Someone who has chromosomes or sex characteristics that don't match the societal definitions of male or female

Nonbinary: Someone whose gender doesn't identify with either binary gender or doesn't identify with any gender, can be used as an umbrella term

Outed: When someone's gender identity is revealed without their permission

Passing: A trans person who can be seen as their gender identity from a glance

Pronouns: Used to refer to a singular person, most common are he/she/they, but there are many others

Sex: The classification according to physical sex characteristics and/or chromosomes, what is assigned at birth and on birth certificates

T: Short for testosterone, or male hormone therapy

Top Surgery: Surgery to physically alter the chest area

Transgender/Trans: Someone whose gender identity does not match the sex they were assigned at birth, can be used as an umbrella term

Transition: The process of changing from your assigned sex into your gender, can be medical, social, or physical

Transphobia: Violence, prejudice, or discrimination against trans people, similar to homophobia

Umbrella Term: A term used to encompass a large group with one label
